2018 has seen the slowest start to the Scottish midge season since 2015, when we had very similar cool weather in April and May, which delayed the first emergence of the midges from their overwintering habitat as larvae just below the soil surface.  The same pattern seems to be occurring in 2018 but over the past few days we’ve had lots of reports of the “first midges of the year” and from  this, we would expect to see the usual first population peak in around 2 weeks’ time.  The Bank Holiday looks sunny and breezy, so should keep midges numbers down but if you do want to plan ahead, you might want to take advantage of our Bank Holiday Smidge discount offer (15% of all Smidge products on the Smidge shop, using discount code 0Q5QDW2H72J4 at check out).
